I finally watched Julie and Julia on New Year's Eve. I've wanted to see it since it came out knowing nothing more about it than who starred and that the main character was cooking through Julia's cookbook.
I THOROUGHLY enjoyed Meryl Streep's performance, and I fell in love with Stanley Tucci's Paul Child - what a doll. I love the way he didn't try to talk Julia out of being upset when her sister became pregnant - he just knew how sad she was and he just comforted her through it.
ANYway, I liked the main character, and I enjoyed traveling with her through her journey. I related to her melt-downs, and I like the way she admired Julia Child SO much and in so many ways.
Overall, however, the plot fell short. Yes, she accomplished her goal of finishing on time, and yes, she got enough attention to get published, but I wanted MORE. They followed the story of each woman until they got published and that was it. ????
I wanted her character to develop more. I wanted to see Julia at book signings and teaching classes and getting a tv show!
So - mixed review. It was enjoyable to watch and I may watch it again.
On another note, it gave me some inspiration to charge up my own blog (s), and I'm considering ways to do that. I'll keep ya posted on that.
Still think I love CHOCOLAT better than any other movie ever.
